About Greenwood Baptist Children’s Learning Center

The Greenwood Baptist Children’s Learning Center is an outreach ministry of Greenwood Baptist Church. Our purpose is to serve as an additional means of reaching unchurched families and extend to them a facility for their children to be cared for in a loving, Christian atmosphere. Our goal is to provide each child the opportunity to connect with children their own age, involve them in situations which require sharing, taking turns, and recognizing that others have rights and privileges too. We provide guided supervision and educational preparation for their future in a Christian atmosphere.

Position Summary

The Lead Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the operational activities of the classroom by following the schedule for their room. The Lead Teacher must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment. They must also set the example for their classroom when it comes to nutrition, communication, and expressing their Christian beliefs. They must have effective communication skills, work ethic, be detailed oriented, and have a passion for teaching children. The Lead Teacher promotes The Center’s philosophy and educational objectives while providing a fun and interactive experience for each child. They shall exhibit and represent behaviors consistent with the values of Greenwood Baptist Church.

Qualifications

  • Must be of Christian faith and willing to sign a “Statement of Faith”

  • Have a willingness to talk and teach our children Christian fundamentals

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED

  • Must be able to pass a mandatory pre-employment and routine drug tests

  • Must be able to clear a Childcare Regulation Background Check to include fingerprinting as well as renewal checks

  • Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to work various shifts as needed

  • Must be able to pass required educational trainings necessary for this role independently

  • Work experience in a licensed childcare facility preferred but not required

  • Willing to take care of children of all ages to include feeding, diaper changing, potty training, and interacting with them in a positive manner.

  • Be an initiative taker, friendly, outgoing, team-oriented, attentive, ethical, and organized

  • Have a keen sense of hygiene and cleanliness when it comes to self, children, rooms, and other shared areas in the facility

  • Have a strong skill in communicating with children, parents, and other staff members

  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage their social, cognitive, and emotional growth

  • Maintain required annual training hours for Texas Department of Family and Protective Services licensing

  • Maintain CPR and First-Aid Certification

  • Maintain clear background check

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, positive, nurturing, and healthy learning environment that helps each child to have a positive experience while in your care

  • Treat each child with dignity and respect for their cultural background

  • Prepare and implement lesson plans for children according to the age, developmental maturity, and needs of the children assigned to the class including Bible studies, fundamental vocabulary, simple shapes, basic colors, letters, and numbers based on the approved curriculum

  • Post current lesson plans, food menus, and daily schedules on the inside and outside of their assigned classrooms

  • Meet lesson plan deadlines according to the Director’s/Administration’s communication

  • Ensure proper materials needed for lesson plans and class needs are requested in a timely manner

  • Must adhere to the classroom and facility schedules assigned to the various rooms to provide consistency for the children

  • Always maintain “Active Supervision” in the classroom, playground, restroom, and other shared areas of The Center

  • Create an ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, clean, and productive classroom

  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and orderly environment at The Center by providing daily janitorial duties inside and outside of the classroom to include restrooms, hallways, and areas shared by others

  • Effectively manage a busy classroom environment and provide the structure and discipline required for successful learning

  • Ensure proper discipline and guidance is given for each child according to their age, maturity level, and learning capacity; Never using corporal, food, or other harmful acts as a form of punishment.

  • Interact with children in a positive manner throughout the day and provide redirection in a calm, firm voice

  • Maintain accurate records and updates on Brightwheel regarding the day-to-day activities of the children in the classroom including, but not limited to, attendance, meal/feedings, diaper changes, and illness/incident reports

  • Facilitate positive, professional, and appropriate communication with parents on child’s developmental progress, needs in the classroom, lesson plans, and conferences needed for child’s behavior through Brightwheel

  • Encourage family involvement in the program by inviting them to observe the classroom, volunteer, and join The Center for special events

  • Maintain observations on children’s behavior, development, and milestones through Brightwheel for parents and administration to review

  • Report to the Director all medical issues, accidents, and/or incidents where a child is hurt, in addition to documenting in Brightwheel, for the parents to see in a timely fashion

  • Ensure The Center policies and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standards are adhered to in the classroom and other shared areas at all times

  • Help facilitate a supported, collaborative, team-oriented environment with other teachers, staff members, and administration to create an optimal learning and caring environment

  • Ensure confidentiality is observed and maintained when discussing any incident or happenings in the classroom pertaining to other children during staff and/or parent discussions

  • Ensuring that the required trainings, credentials, or other education for the role are up to date and reported to the Director for proper documentation of your records

  • Fully understands procedures for reporting suspected incidents of child abuse and/or neglect

Physical Requirements

  • Safely lift a child or children with total weight of 50 pounds unassisted

  • Conduct activities involving substantial standing, walking, moderate sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching on a frequent basis

  • Work with hands above shoulder height with a weight up to 20 pounds

  • Work with arms extended at shoulder height with a weight up to 20 pounds

  • Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor without assistance

  • Push and pull playground equipment, art supplies, manipulate office equipment, etc.

  • Participate in routine conversation in person or via telephone

  • Ability to distinguish telephone, radio/pager signals, alarms, and other auditory tones
