About The Learning Center
History
Greenwood Baptist Children's Learning Center was established over 30 years ago by then Pastor Wayman Swopes. When his neighbor was transferred to another city for work, their home operated childcare operation was to cease, thus ending a needed service to those who relied on this family for childcare. Desiring to continue this important need to his community, Pastor Swopes brought it home to the Greenwood Baptist Church in its former building across the street on the corner on Hwy 307 and CR 1379. From its modest beginnings occupying several small rooms, it was later moved across the street to the new church building. In 2012, a 10,000 square feet dedicated wing with multitude of classrooms and accommodations was added onto the church where it would call home for the lil ones to explore. In 2021, a vision to create a dedicated facility to incorporate 125 students with the ability to expand and accommodate upwards of 250 students further into the future was brought before the church and unanimously approved. A short two years later in June of 2023, The Center moved into its new home that sits directly behind the church facility with 20,000 square feet to provide the best care to the young children of the Greenwood area.
New Facility
The modern design allows for 12 individual classrooms, a large activity room, and cafeteria along with wide access halls. Each classroom is equipped with an emergency exit door, fire sensor, and emergency fire pulls. An enhanced CCTV system monitors each room and all areas of the facility including the perimeter of the building for the safe protection of our students.
We are currently permitted for 125 students.
Theme
When families enter the facility, they will be immediately transformed back to the Garden of Eden where it all began. Upon that entry, everyone is greeted by Adam and Eve beautifully painted mural.
The cafeteria has been transformed into a farm scene showcasing a barn, windmill, farmhouse, and a church to give the students enjoyment of eating and snacking on "the farm". During their eating activities, they are joined by our residents from the VeggieTales where they're found playing among the fields, peeking through the structures, and even riding around in our ol' farm truck.
Very soon, a stroll down the halls will take the students back into the days of Daniel as we get a glimpse of multiple seasons of his life as well as other depictions of our history in the Bible. We have a heavy burden to include the illustrations of our Biblical history to encompass every student so that they not only hear about our Lord through the daily curriculum, but to experience it by sight as well. We welcome each family to walk with us as we continue to expand our hallways and rooms decor into the next phase!
